Trainer Bob Baffert secured his ninth consecutive win in the Starlet Stakes (G2) at Los Alamitos Race Course on December 6, despite the scratch of two-time stakes winner Himika. His homebred filly Consequent, owned and bred by Juddmonte, won the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-old fillies, finishing a length ahead of California-bred Cashed. Jockey Kazushi Kimura guided Consequent from third place to victory, while Baffert’s other entrant, Nimah, finished third after a stretch battle with Cashed. The stewards reviewed but upheld the race results despite some contact between Cashed and Nimah.
Consequent is by leading sire Into Mischief and is a full sister to Show Card, another Baffert-trained stakes winner. Juddmonte bred her from the Uncle Mo mare Cognitive, who was also trained by Baffert. Consequent broke her maiden in November and was unveiled in the fall Del Mar meeting. The Starlet Stakes is part of the Road to the Kentucky Oaks, awarding qualifying points to the top five finishers. Into Mischief, who stands at Spendthrift Farm for $250,000 in 2026, continues to produce top graded stakes winners, including Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty.
