Columbia Horses Dove and Sparrow Get Second Chance at Freedom Reigns Ranch

Two horses named Dove and Sparrow, found severely neglected and near death in Columbia after their owner’s passing, have been given a new lease on life thanks to Freedom Reigns Ranch, a local nonprofit focused on therapeutic care for youth through horse interaction. Both horses were critically underweight and suffering from serious health issues—Dove with a painful hoof abscess and Sparrow with an oozing eyelid tumor. Rescued in early July, they were immediately treated by The Jaeckle Centre, specialists in equine rehabilitation, and have since shown remarkable progress, gaining significant weight and beginning recovery from their injuries.

Freedom Reigns Ranch not only provides medical care but also uses these rescue stories to teach children resilience and hope, emphasizing that healing takes time. Dove and Sparrow’s journey highlights the power of community support and specialized care, with Dove expected to be released soon to reunite with Sparrow in better health. Their inspiring recovery serves as a testament to the dedication of volunteers and professionals working to save and rehabilitate forgotten horses, offering both the animals and the youth who care for them a chance at renewed life and confidence.
