Colorado Seatbelt Laws, Ridiculous Animal Rules, and New Gun Legislation for 2025

In Colorado, seatbelt laws are enforced primarily through secondary enforcement, meaning a driver can only be ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt if pulled over for another violation, except when a child is unbuckled, which allows for a primary stop. This contrasts with neighboring states like Utah and New Mexico, where not wearing a seatbelt is a primary offense, and others like Wyoming and Arizona, where seatbelt violations alone do not justify a traffic stop. Notably, New Hampshire is the only state with no adult seatbelt enforcement but does enforce it for minors.

Additionally, Colorado has introduced 12 new gun laws in 2025 aimed at tightening regulations around firearm ownership and safety. Key measures include raising the minimum age to purchase ammunition to 21 starting in 2026, banning rapid-fire conversion devices, requiring background checks and firearm certification for semiautomatic weapons, and mandating security plans for gun shows. Other laws focus on preventing gun purchases by individuals with felony convictions like car theft, enhancing responses to mass shootings, and establishing voluntary self-prohibitions on gun purchases through the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
