Collaborative Effort to Ensure Sustainability of Horse and Pet Insurance: Industry Leaders Unite

The Pet and Equine Insurance Sustainability Network, founded by Sharon Brown, brought together over 100 representatives of major companies to address challenges in equine and small animal insurance. The meeting focused on issues such as veterinary fees, transparency in pricing, preventative care, and affordability of insurance. The goal is to establish an industry-wide association to champion transparency, promote accountability, and prioritize education in order to ensure a sustainable future for pet and equine insurance.

Ms. Brown, who has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, initiated the network as she has seen premiums climb and understands the pressures insurers face. The meeting emphasized the emotional and financial impact of not having insurance, which can lead to difficult decisions for animal owners. The aim is to create a steering group to unite insurers, vets, and service providers to work towards innovative solutions that benefit all parties involved.

Participants at the meeting, including Agria risk and compliance director Claudia Rodríguez and British Equine Veterinary Association chief executive David Mountford, expressed the importance of keeping the consumer’s needs at the center of decision-making. The focus on better outcomes for animals, owners, and the industry was seen as a rallying call for action to make insurance more accessible and meaningful. The network is calling on all animal lovers to join the conversation and share their experiences to shape a sustainable future for pet and equine insurance.
