Cletis Named 2025 Turquoise Circuit Steer Wrestling Horse of the Year

Cletis, a 2017 gelding owned and ridden by Arizona cowboy Trevor Duhon, was named the 2025 Turquoise Circuit Steer Wrestling Horse of the Year after an impressive debut season in steer wrestling. Purchased by Trevor and Jenna Duhon in late 2024 after failing in barrel horse programs, Cletis quickly adapted to his new career, helping multiple cowboys place at rodeos and earning over $40,000 in lifetime earnings. Known for his big personality and strong work ethic, Cletis became a favorite among riders, with ten cowboys choosing to ride him at the Prescott summer rodeo, where seven won checks, including Michael Bates who won the World’s Oldest rodeo Championship on him.

The Duhons, experienced trainers with over 20 years in performance horses, see Cletis as a prime example of their training philosophy. Trevor praises Cletis for his ability to motivate hard work and deliver results quickly. Looking ahead, Cletis is set to continue competing in the 2026 season with rider Trisyn Kalawaia, with the Duhon family confident he will reach his full potential and compete at the highest levels, including the National Finals rodeo in Las Vegas.
