Harness racing returns to the Clearfield County Fair with four days of Standardbred horse racing starting Saturday, July 12, and running through Tuesday, July 15. Races will feature 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers competing in both “A” and “B” divisions as part of Pennsylvania’s Fair Sire Stakes, with purses ranging from $2,500 to $7,500 and a championship event scheduled for October at Pocono Downs. The sport, governed by the United States Trotting Association and Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission, showcases Standardbreds—an American breed known for their speed, solid build, and ability to trot or pace.
In addition to the races, the week includes the Buster DiSalvo Trophy awarded to the driver with the most wins, and the popular Hat Derby Contest sponsored by the Clearfield Revitalization Corporation, held on Tuesday evening. The event continues a long tradition at the fair, drawing enthusiasts to watch the skilled horses and drivers compete on the track.
