Churchill Downs Inc. has introduced a new jackpot wager called the “Jackpot 8,” requiring bettors to select the top eight finishers in a race, debuting in race 9 at Turfway Park. With a $1 minimum bet and a 22% takeout, 75% of the remaining pool funds the jackpot while 25% is split among multiple winners, with no consolation prizes for partial selections. The wager is designed to attract bettors seeking large payouts and can carry over between tracks, supported by a $250,000 bonus on Churchill’s TwinSpires.com platform.
This new bet offers significantly higher complexity than existing wagers like the super high five, with 2,730 times more combinations in a 20-horse field, aiming to engage both casual and serious fans. Churchill plans to promote the Jackpot 8 during its spring-summer season starting April 25, coinciding with Kentucky Derby week, hoping to boost interest and wagering handle beyond the typical levels seen with similar high-difficulty bets.
