Chunk of Gold Prepares for Bryan Station Stakes After Strong Season

Chunk of Gold, a Grade 3 West Virginia Derby winner with a strong record including multiple runner-up finishes in graded stakes, recently had a half-mile workout on Keeneland’s turf course as his trainer, Ethan West, explores turf options late in the 3-year-old season. With limited races remaining for his age group, West is considering entering him in an allowance race or the Grade 3 Bryan Station Stakes at Keeneland on October 25, hoping to add to Chunk of Gold’s $730,800 earnings and potentially approach millionaire status.

Looking ahead, West plans to rest and freshen Chunk of Gold after this fall campaign with the intention of bringing him back as a 4-year-old, aiming to build on his solid resume and continue his development next year.
