The World Equestrian Center’s CDI3* event is a crucial stage for U.S. dressage riders aiming to qualify for the 2027 World Championships in Aachen, which serves as a key qualifier for the 2028 Olympics. As the host nation for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, the U.S. automatically secures a team berth, allowing them to focus on developing new talent alongside top-ranked riders. Leading the current U.S. standings are Christian Simonson on Indian Rock, averaging 75.424% in Grand Prix, and Marcus Orlob on Jane, with strong Grand Prix and Special scores. Other notable riders include Genay Vaughn, Benjamin Ebeling, and Olympic veteran Kasey Perry-Glass.
Compared to four years ago, current scores are slightly lower, reflecting a transitional phase for the U.S. team. Several former team members with high scores from 2022, such as Steffen Peters and Adrienne Lyle, have set a high benchmark. Upcoming qualifying competitions across the U.S., including World Cup qualifiers and CDI events, will carry increased importance in team selection. A shortlist will be chosen after the national championships in Ocala, Florida, to compete in Europe for final team selection ahead of the World Championships.
