Chrissy Elder: From Heart Surgeries to Saving Thousands of Abandoned Dogs with Forgotten, Now Family Rescue

Chrissy Elder, despite facing significant personal health challenges including over 25 heart surgeries and a diagnosis of dysautonomia, has found her purpose through rescuing abandoned and medically needy dogs. Inspired by the high euthanasia rates at shelters and the neglect of older or sick dogs, she co-founded Forgotten, Now Family Rescue during the COVID-19 pandemic. This organization, based near Charlotte, has grown into one of the largest animal rescues in the U.S., saving thousands of dogs annually from across the South and beyond, focusing especially on those with major medical needs or difficult cases.

Chrissy’s dedication has earned her recognition as a leading figure in the rescue community, with peers and law enforcement frequently seeking her expertise. Balancing her rescue work with a career in property management and a family of seven, including three adopted children, Chrissy embodies resilience and compassion. Forgotten, Now Family Rescue continues to rely on volunteers and donations to foster and adopt out dogs, offering a second chance to animals often overlooked by other organizations.
