Cheshire Firefighters Rescue Two Horses in Back-to-Back Emergencies

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to two consecutive equine emergencies in mid-September, rescuing two mares in separate incidents. On September 13, Rosie, a 13-year-old mare, fell into a brook in Tabley and was safely lifted out using strops and a telehandler with the help of crews from Knutsford, Bollington, and Lymm. Remarkably, Rosie showed no injuries and was returned to her stable in good health.

The following day, an 18-year-old mare named Gem became stuck in a bog in Siddington, with her hindlegs sinking deep into the mud. Firefighters from Macclesfield, Bollington, and Knutsford, alongside a local vet and a tractor, worked together to free her. Gem’s welfare was closely monitored throughout, and she was safely returned to her stable after being checked and warmed up. Both rescues were praised for their professionalism and care, with the horses’ owners expressing deep gratitude for the emergency teams’ efforts.
