Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs Kicks Off Early 2026 Spring Racing Season

Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs is launching its 2026 spring Thoroughbred racing season early, starting January 12—nearly two months ahead of last year’s March 3 opener—and running through Kentucky Derby Day on May 2. The 28-day schedule primarily features races on Mondays and Tuesdays at 1:15 p.m. CT, with special Saturday events on Arkansas Derby Day (March 28) and Kentucky Derby Day (May 2). The season highlights seven stakes races, including the Wilma Mankiller Stakes to open the season and the Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma Classic Sprint on March 28, each offering a $50,000 purse.

The earlier start aims to provide Oklahoma horsemen with continuous racing opportunities without relocating, potentially boosting national visibility and wagering during a typically slow period. The track plans to maintain about $4 million in total purse money, with increases in many class levels. No live racing is scheduled on President’s Day (Feb. 16) or on contingency dates for weather cancellations. Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs also offers a full entertainment experience with 250 games and live music, located just east of Claremore, Oklahoma.
