Cassie Sanger Honored with 2026 Lionel Guerrand-Hermès Trophy at USET Benefit Gala

Cassie Sanger, a newly-debuted 5* eventing rider and member of the 2026 USEF Eventing Development Program, was honored with the 2026 Lionel Guerrand-Hermès Trophy at the US Equestrian Team Foundation’s “Aachen” benefit gala. This prestigious award recognizes a junior or young rider who exemplifies sportsmanship and horsemanship in Olympic disciplines. Cassie is the first eventer to receive this trophy since 2011 and has previously benefited from USET Foundation grants that supported her international competition experience. Now based in England with Olympic gold medalist Ros Canter, Cassie plans to compete in major events including the Badminton Horse Trials and the Under-25 Eventing World Championship in 2026.

The “Aachen” gala raised nearly $1.2 million to support US equestrian sport ahead of the 2026 FEI World Championships in Germany. Funds will aid US athletes’ participation and development programs, as the US relies heavily on private support rather than government funding. The event also honored show jumper Lillie Keenan with the Whitney Stone Cup for her excellence and sportsmanship. The gala underscores the critical role of philanthropy in sustaining competitive excellence in US equestrian sports.
