A young boy from Mamre contacted the Cape of Good Hope SPCA after discovering his horse, Forest, had been ridden, beaten, and starved while stabled at a friend’s property. Following threats to return the horse to its abusers, the boy bravely sought help from the SPCA, who promptly rescued Forest. The horse was found emaciated and wounded, but after nine months of veterinary care and rehabilitation, Forest regained his health and temperament. He formed a bond with Snowflake, a Shetland pony also in recovery, and now lives in a permanent home in Noordhoek.
The SPCA highlights Forest’s recovery as a testament to swift intervention and compassion, urging the public to support its Horse Care Unit to continue rescuing and rehabilitating abused animals. Donation options and further information are available on the SPCA’s website and social media channels.
