The Buckingham Township Police Department enhanced its annual control tactics training by partnering with the Kindle Hill Foundation in Montgomery County, moving the sessions from their headquarters to the foundation’s horse barns. This new approach incorporated the foundation’s defensive tactics training facility, allowing officers to engage in equine-assisted exercises that promote mental wellness, communication, negotiation, de-escalation, and teamwork skills.
This innovative training method not only fulfilled the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s mandated arrest and control techniques requirements but also provided officers with practical experience in handling unique situations, such as managing horses. The program was positively received, equipping officers with improved skills for safer and more effective policing.
