The Border Security Force (BSF) has requested all state police forces in India to provide lists of local dog breeds so they can be properly trained for various operational roles. Currently, the BSF has inducted indigenous breeds like the Rampur Hound and Mudhol Hound, which have proven effective in counter-terrorism, anti-Naxalite operations, and drug detection along India’s borders. These breeds are being deployed across the western and eastern frontiers and are planned to be supplied to state police forces as well. The Mudhol Hound “Riya” recently won first place at the All India Police Dog Competition and will lead the dog squad in the upcoming Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade.
The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary on October 31, will feature a grand parade in Gujarat showcasing the skills and valor of Central Armed Police Forces and state police contingents. Highlights include demonstrations by indigenous dog breeds, camel and horse contingents, martial arts displays by women personnel, and performances by NCC cadets and the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran team. The event emphasizes national unity and diversity, with tableaux from various states and gallantry awardees participating, alongside a cultural program celebrating India’s rich heritage.
