Brownies from Girl Scout Troop 34408 Earn Pet Care Badge at Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard

Girl Scout Troop 34408 visited the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard for an educational and enjoyable equine experience. The Scouts toured the headquarters, stalls, and riding ring, trying on helmets and riding some of the mounts. Horse Guard members shared their expertise and taught the scouts about the history of the unit, as well as the tools and care required for the horses.

During the visit, the Scouts earned their Pet Care Badge and received a stuffed horse as a gift to commemorate the experience. They learned about the inner workings of the Horse Guard, one of the oldest cavalry units in continuous service in the United States. The Scouts also got to see century-old saddles, uniforms worn in past presidential inaugurations, and the expansive field space where the horses spend their days.

The Horse Guard welcomes inquiries about visits, which can be made via email. The Scouts, led by troop leader Kim Manely, had the opportunity to interact with the horses, learn about grooming tools, and experience horseback riding for the first time. The visit was a memorable and educational experience for all involved.
