Breeders’ Cup 2025 Pre-Entries Top 200 for Fourth Consecutive Year at Del Mar

For the fourth consecutive year, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships has attracted over 200 pre-entries, with 207 Thoroughbreds pre-entered for the 2025 event at Del Mar on October 31-November 1. This prestigious international racing festival features 14 Grade 1 races and more than $34 million in purses, drawing top horses, trainers, and jockeys from around the world, including 58 contenders from abroad. Notable entries include last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic top three finishers—Sierra Leone, Fierceness, and Forever Young—as well as eight returning Breeders’ Cup winners aiming for repeat victories. The event also benefits from the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series, which grants automatic entries to winners of key qualifying races worldwide.

The Championships will be extensively covered by NBC Sports, FanDuel TV, and international broadcasters, reaching fans in over 180 countries. The races will be broadcast live with comprehensive coverage across multiple platforms, including Peacock and social media channels. Field sizes are capped at 14 starters per race (12 for Turf Sprint events), with an oversubscription system prioritizing Challenge winners, points, and expert panel judgment to finalize entries. Del Mar, hosting for the fourth time, follows a record-setting 2024 event that achieved a global wagering high of $203.7 million, underscoring the event’s global prestige and competitive depth.
