Boosting Amateur Opportunities in the Showing World: TSR’s Premier League and Championship Show for 2025

The Showing Register (TSR) is enhancing its amateur offerings for 2025 by relaunching the premier amateur points league and introducing a new amateurs’ championship show. The league, exclusive to TSR members, allows amateur home-produced combinations to earn points for placings at designated HOYS qualifiers, with winners earning tickets to HOYS provided they have a minimum of 10 points. Additionally, there are more than 100 qualification spaces available for eligible combinations to compete for a HOYS ticket at TSR amateur-only qualifiers.

TSR has also announced a new amateur of the Year Show at NAEC Stoneleigh in December, where competitors can qualify at about 40 affiliated shows. The show will feature traditional classes as well as categories for riding club horses and ponies, and “plaited pony.” TSR co-ordinator Debbie Spears expressed excitement for the return of the premier amateur points league and the opportunity it provides for amateur competitors to secure a spot at Horse of the Year Show.

One parent, Anna Ellwood, shared her daughter Scarlett’s experience of qualifying her Exmoor pony Omega for HOYS in 2023, highlighting the excitement and thrill of the opportunity. The new Christmas-themed amateur of the year show is designed to celebrate the hard work and dedication of amateur competitors. Overall, the relaunch of the premier amateur points league and the introduction of the amateurs’ championship show aim to promote the HOYS experience for amateurs and provide more opportunities for qualification.
