The Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming is starting its 2025 adoption season with two wild horse and burro adoption events this month. The untrained animals will be offered to qualified adopters at the Rock Springs Wild Horses Holding Facility on April 19 and at the Wheatland Off Range Corral on April 26. The horses and burros available for adoption have been removed from overpopulated herds on western public range lands.
Approximately 40 wild horses will be available for adoption at the Rock Springs event, while up to 30 wild horses will be available at the Wheatland event. The adoption events have a $125 minimum fee, and any animals not placed during the auction will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until noon. The live competitive auction at the Wheatland event will begin at 9 a.m., with gates opening at 8 a.m.
For more information on the adoption events and locations, individuals can visit the Wild Horse & Burro Events page on the BLM website or contact the national information center at 866-468-7826 or [email protected]. These adoption events provide an opportunity for qualified adopters to give homes to wild horses and burros that have been removed from overpopulated herds on public range lands in the western United States.
