The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a two-day wild horse and burro adoption event on July 18-19 at the Barney Wiggins Memorial arena in Livingston, Texas. The event will feature 120 wild horses and burros, including adult and yearling horses that were once free-roaming on public lands in the West. Adoption hours are from noon to 6 p.m. on July 18 and 8 a.m. to noon on July 19, with BLM staff available onsite to assist with applications and provide more details.
The BLM manages wild horse and burro populations by periodically removing excess animals to maintain healthy herds and protect rangeland resources. Since 1973, over 280,000 animals have been placed in approved homes through this program. To adopt, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and meet specific requirements for corral size and fencing.
