BLM to Host Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Event in Livingston February 27-28

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a two-day wild horse and burro adoption event on February 27-28 at the Barney Wiggins Memorial arena in Livingston. The event will feature 150 wild horses and burros, including adults and yearlings that were once free-roaming on public lands in the western U.S. Adoptions will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the first day and from 8 a.m. to noon on the second day, with BLM staff available onsite to approve applications and assist prospective adopters.

The BLM removes excess wild horses and burros periodically to maintain healthy herds and protect rangeland resources, placing over 280,000 animals in approved homes since 1973. To qualify for adoption, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and provide adequate corral space and shelter for the animals. The BLM manages millions of acres of public lands primarily in the western U.S., aiming to sustain their health and productivity for current and future generations.
