The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a two-day wild horse and burro adoption event on February 27-28 at the Barney Wiggins Memorial arena in Livingston. The event will feature 150 wild horses and burros, with adoption hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the first day and 8 a.m. to noon on the second. These animals, which once roamed freely on public lands, are periodically removed by BLM to maintain healthy herds and protect rangeland resources. Since 1973, over 280,000 wild horses and burros have been placed in approved homes through this program.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and provide adequate corral space and shelter for the animals. BLM staff will be onsite to assist with applications and ensure proper transport arrangements. The BLM manages vast public lands primarily in the western U.S., aiming to sustain their health and productivity for current and future generations.
