The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a two-day wild horse and burro adoption event on February 27-28 at the Barney Wiggins Memorial arena in Livingston. Featuring 150 animals, including adult and yearling horses and burros that once roamed public lands in the West, the event aims to place these animals in approved homes as part of BLM’s ongoing efforts to manage healthy herds and protect rangeland resources. Adoption hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on February 27 and 8 a.m. to noon on February 28, with BLM staff available onsite to assist with applications.
To qualify for adoption, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and provide adequate corral space and shelter for the animals. Since 1973, BLM has successfully placed over 280,000 wild horses and burros nationwide. The BLM manages vast public lands primarily in the western U.S., working to sustain their health and productivity for current and future generations.
