Bit By Bit Therapeutic Riding Program Faces Closure Without Community Support

Bit By Bit, a nonprofit in Oologah, provides therapeutic horseback riding sessions that have proven especially beneficial for children with disabilities such as speech delays, sensory challenges, and limited mobility. One notable success story is Kodiak, a young boy whose speech improved significantly after connecting with the horses, an outcome his family says traditional therapies did not achieve. The riding therapy stimulates movement similar to walking, offering physical activity that many children with disabilities cannot otherwise tolerate.

Despite its positive impact, Bit By Bit faces severe financial challenges, with monthly operating costs of $20,000 to $25,000 largely covered by grants and donations that have dwindled since the pandemic. The organization risks shutting down by year’s end unless it raises approximately $120,000. To raise awareness and support, Bit By Bit is hosting an open house on August 8th and is calling on the public for donations, volunteers, and increased recognition of their services to ensure more families can benefit from this transformative therapy.
