The recent birth of a foal named Solly at Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm in Wiltshire is a significant event for the survival of the Eriskay pony, an ancient and critically endangered breed. With only around 400 Eriskay ponies remaining worldwide, this new addition strengthens the population and offers hope for the breed’s future.
Eriskay ponies originate from the Western Isles of Scotland, where they were traditionally used by crofters. Recognized as critically endangered by the Rare Breed Survival Trust, efforts to preserve and increase their numbers are crucial to maintaining this unique part of equine heritage.
