Betfred Derby Festival 2026 to Boost Prize Money and Introduce Free Entry for Under-18s

The Jockey Club has announced major enhancements to the Betfred Derby Festival for 2026, including a boost in prize money for the premier Classic to £2 million and doubling the Coronation Cup prize to £1 million, which will now be held on Saturday. Additional changes aim to improve accessibility and engagement, such as free parking for all racegoers, free general admission for accompanied under-18s, discounts for teenagers in hospitality areas, and the introduction of a new family-friendly fan zone called DerbyFest. These updates follow a six-month review and seek to revitalize attendance and enhance the overall experience at Epsom Downs.

The festival will also feature new viewing and entertainment areas, including Galileo’s live entertainment zone, 1780 trackside marquee, and Champions Seating along the final furlong, all designed to attract a broader audience and celebrate the event’s prestige. The prize-money increase extends payouts to the horse finishing 10th, and the 72-hour declarations trial will become permanent. Epsom’s general manager emphasized the importance of evolving the event to maintain its world-class status, while leading trainer Aidan O’Brien highlighted the Derby’s significance in the racing calendar and breeding industry.
