Beloved Horse Squirt Euthanized After Battle with Degenerative Ligament Disorder

Squirt, a beloved horse known for his friendly nature and unique personality, was euthanized after a prolonged struggle with degenerative suspensory ligament disorder (DSLD), a fatal condition that deteriorates the ligaments in the legs. Relocated to a farm in March 2020, Squirt’s condition was managed through corrective hoof trimming, nutrition, and supportive care, allowing him to thrive and bond with other horses and 4H members.

Despite these efforts, Squirt’s health declined towards the end of summer, showing increased pain and lameness that medication could not alleviate. To prevent further suffering, the decision was made to euthanize him peacefully, surrounded by his equine and human family, and he was laid to rest in a serene spot on the farm.
