The Belgian Olympic dressage team was named the “Team of the Year 2024” by the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (BOIC) during the “Team Belgium Awards”. Other notable awards included Nafi Thiam as Female Athlete of the Year and Remco Evenepoel as Male Athlete of the Year. The Miracle of Lille by the basketball team was chosen as the Olympic Moment of the year.
The dressage team, consisting of Domien Michiels, Larissa Pauluis, and Flore De Winne, received the Team of the Year award for their historic fifth-place finish. Larissa Pauluis, who also delivered a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, was nominated for the Olympic Moment of the Year but lost to the Belgian Cats basketball team. The Cats made a remarkable performance by defeating Japan by 27 points to qualify for the quarter-finals.
In addition to the Team of the Year award, other notable performances included the “Belgian Tornados” becoming World Indoor Champions in Glasgow and the “Belgian Cats” securing their spot for Paris 2024 after finishing 4th at the Olympics. Remco Evenepoel also had a memorable moment when he suffered a punctured tire just 3km from the finish while on his way to becoming a double Olympic champion.
