Multiple stakes winner and millionaire Bango, the winningest horse in Churchill Downs history with 12 wins at the track, has been retired at age 8 following two lackluster performances in 2024. Owned and bred by Fred and Debbie Schwartz, Bango finished his career with a record of 15-4-5 in 42 starts and earnings of over $1.6 million. Although he never won a graded stakes race, he secured nine black-type victories primarily at Churchill Downs, Ellis Park, and Turfway Park. Trainer Greg Foley noted Bango’s strong affinity for Churchill Downs and mentioned that plans for his post-racing career, possibly as a stallion in a regional market or retirement, are still being finalized.
Meanwhile, Foley also shared updates on Troubleshooting, a 3-year-old colt owned by Donamire Farm, who is coming off wins in the Franklin-Simpson Stakes (G1T) and Bryan Station Stakes (G3T). Troubleshooting is set to run in the Commonwealth Turf (G3T) at Churchill Downs on November 22, which will be the longest race of his career at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Following the fall campaign, Troubleshooting is expected to spend the winter at Fair Grounds Race Course with a break before targeting grass stakes races in the spring.
