The Horse Racing Women’s Association, Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation, and Keeneland collaborated to host a backstretch women’s appreciation event on October 7 at Keeneland, honoring the women who care for racehorses daily. The event featured a panel of speakers from various organizations providing key resources and support available to women working on the backstretch, including financial aid, health services, and welfare programs. The Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation offers confidential financial assistance for medical and living expenses to racing industry workers facing hardships, emphasizing their broad and flexible support.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event included mammograms and cancer screenings, followed by a raffle, lunch, and goodie bags for attendees. More than 70 women participated, making it one of the largest events of its kind. The collaboration with Keeneland and organizations like Horses and Hope allowed for expanded outreach and highlighted the vital contributions of women in the horse racing industry, serving as a heartfelt thank you for their dedication and hard work.
