Atlanta Police Mounted Patrol Employee Files Whistleblower Lawsuit Over Horse Treatment and Retaliation

Kelly Robison, a longtime Atlanta Police Department employee responsible for overseeing the mounted patrol horses, has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the City of Atlanta. She alleges retaliation after raising concerns about unsafe and inhumane conditions for the police horses, including lack of clean water, unsanitary stalls, improper training, untreated infections, and unsafe transport. Despite her repeated warnings, Robison claims the department ignored the issues and retaliated by stripping her of key duties, excluding her from training, placing her on administrative leave, and reducing her role upon return.

Robison’s lawsuit, filed in Fulton County Superior Court, argues that these retaliatory actions violate Georgia’s Whistleblower Act, which protects public employees reporting safety or legal violations. She is seeking a jury trial, back pay, damages, and attorney’s fees, and has also filed a discrimination complaint with federal regulators that may be added to the case. The City of Atlanta has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
