On September 11, 2025, the ASPCA hosted its second annual full-day equine-focused law enforcement training in Oklahoma, attended by 20 personnel from 13 agencies. The eight-hour CLEET-certified course, held at the ASPCA’s Equine Transition and Adoption Center (ETAC), covered horse handling, behavior, medical evaluation, investigation techniques, evidence documentation, and cruelty laws. The training was especially valuable for attendees with little prior equine experience, providing hands-on learning to build confidence in managing horses and potential cruelty cases.
This initiative supports the ASPCA’s holistic approach to improving equine welfare in Oklahoma by educating law enforcement on how to better assist horses and owners. ETAC offers cost-free veterinary care, euthanasia services, and safe relinquishment options, aiming to keep horses safe in their homes or provide rehabilitation before adoption. By equipping officers with knowledge and resources, the program helps ensure intervention occurs only when necessary, promoting the well-being of both horses and their owners. The ASPCA plans to offer more such trainings in the future.
