Arundawn Dog Rescue Faces Crisis as Rising Costs and Dog Numbers Push Centre to Breaking Point

Arundawn Dog Rescue, a long-established charity near Horsham that has rehomed over 10,000 dogs in its 46-year history, is currently facing its most difficult period due to a surge in dogs needing care since the pandemic. The UK’s dog population increased significantly during this time, leading to more animals being abandoned or surrendered. The rescue, run by a small team and relying solely on public donations without government support, is struggling with rising costs that far exceed the adoption donations they receive, resulting in substantial financial losses.

With 160 dogs under their care—including those in permanent foster homes, kennels, and awaiting adoption—the centre is overwhelmed and nearing breaking point. Many potential adopters are hesitant to take on older or medically needy dogs, exacerbating the crisis. Arundawn urgently appeals to the community for donations, fostering, and awareness to help sustain their operations and continue providing care for vulnerable dogs, fearing that without increased support, both the rescue and the animals it serves face an uncertain future.
