The UK’s dog population increased significantly during this time, leading to more animals being abandoned or surrendered. The rescue, run by a small team and relying solely on public donations without government support, is struggling with rising costs that far exceed the adoption donations they receive, resulting in substantial financial losses.

With 160 dogs under their care—including those in permanent foster homes, kennels, and awaiting adoption—the centre is overwhelmed and nearing breaking point. Many potential adopters are hesitant to take on older or medically needy dogs, exacerbating the crisis.
