Annual Marshall Lions Club Charity Horse Show Kicks Off Saturday

The Marshall Lions Club is hosting its 63rd annual Charity Horse Show, the longest-running horse show in East Texas, beginning Friday with 20 horses competing. The event supports local charitable causes, including scholarships, eyeglass vouchers, and community programs like Mission Marshall’s Read-to-Ride. Show manager Robert Wood, involved since 2000, emphasizes that all proceeds benefit Marshall-area charities.

Highlighting breeds such as Tennessee walking horses, spotted saddle horses, and racking horses, the show has recently seen Paso Fino horses take top honors. Announcer Ellen Perez, a member of the Southwestern Paso Fino Horse Association, praised the breed’s smooth four-beat gait. The free, public event continues Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Marshall City arena, featuring stylishly decorated saddles and outfits, with organizers encouraging local residents to attend and enjoy the unique horse breeds on display.
