American Signature Furniture Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Amid Sales Slump

Ohio-based American Signature, Inc., the parent company of American Signature Furniture and Value City Furniture, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on November 22, 2025, citing declining sales, increased costs from inflation, and tariffs on imported Asian furniture as primary challenges. The company, which operates 120 stores across 17 states but recently closed 33 locations, plans to enter a stalking horse asset purchase agreement with ASI Purchaser LLC to acquire most of its assets, pending court approval. An asset auction is scheduled within 45 days, with stores remaining open and offering deep discounts in the meantime.

American Signature joins a growing list of home furnishing retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond and Big Lots, that have filed for bankruptcy in recent years. Landlords and trade creditors affected by the filing are advised to understand their rights, with legal support available from firms like Stark & Stark’s Shopping Center and Retail Development Group, which has extensive experience representing creditors in retail bankruptcy cases nationwide.
