She suffered severe head injuries, broken bones, and a fractured jaw, and was airlifted to the United States for treatment but died on December 26 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Her former boyfriend was taken into police custody, though formal charges have not yet been announced.

Johannsen, originally from Madison, Wisconsin, was well-known locally as the daughter of the former owners of Johannsen’s Greenhouse, a long-standing family business.
