Authorities have recovered all nine victims from a deadly avalanche near Castle Peak after a challenging multi-day operation hindered by severe winter weather and avalanche risks. The victims, a group of experienced backcountry skiers including three professional guides from Blackbird Mountain Guides, were on a planned two-night hut trip when the avalanche struck. Recovery efforts involved coordinated work by multiple agencies using helicopters, snowcats, and avalanche mitigation techniques to safely retrieve the bodies from the hazardous terrain.

The families of the victims described the group as skilled, well-prepared outdoor enthusiasts who trusted their guides and shared a deep passion for skiing and the mountains. Six other participants survived the incident. Officials continue to urge backcountry travelers to heed avalanche warnings and carry appropriate safety gear, emphasizing the dangers posed by unstable snow conditions in mountainous areas.
