The Alberta RCMP are investigating animal cruelty allegations after over 290 animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and livestock, were seized from two northern Alberta properties near Valleyview. The rescue operation involved the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS), the Canadian Animal Task Force, and more than a dozen other animal welfare groups. The animals were reportedly living in extremely poor conditions despite the properties functioning as animal rescues, prompting urgent intervention. One property was owned by In The Woods Animal Rescue, whose owner expressed devastation over the seizure of her animals and livestock.
The four-day rescue effort required coordination among multiple organizations to provide temporary care and boarding for the animals until they can be adopted. AARCS emphasized the strain on animal welfare resources and urged prospective adopters or those surrendering animals to thoroughly research beforehand. The RCMP confirmed that charges related to animal cruelty and distress are pending, with further details to be released after charges are laid.
