Horse Illustrated, in partnership with the ASPCA’s Right Horse program, features Xanthus as this week’s adoptable horse. Xanthus is a 17-year-old, 13.2hh buckskin gelding currently at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, Missouri. Known for his spunky personality and intelligence, Xanthus is sensitive to saddle fit due to a history of ill-fitting equipment but thrives under a properly fitting English saddle with a seat size of 15” or smaller. He enjoys trail rides and does best with confident, balanced riders who can provide strong leadership, as he can test new handlers but has a “wants to please” attitude.
The ASPCA Right Horse initiative aims to increase horse adoption across the U.S. by connecting potential adopters with horses like Xanthus through their online platform. Interested adopters can learn more about Xanthus and other adoptable horses by visiting myrighthorse.org or contacting Longmeadow Rescue Ranch directly. This program highlights horses in transition and promotes responsible adoption to improve equine welfare nationwide.
