Adoptable Horse of the Week: Meet Moonshine, a 14-Year-Old American Paint Horse Mare

Horse Illustrated, in partnership with the ASPCA’s Right Horse program, features Moonshine, a 14-year-old American Paint Horse mare currently available for adoption through Easy R Equine Rescue in Lubbock, Texas. Moonshine was surrendered due to her previous owner’s health issues and has limited ground training experience, making her somewhat wary but not aggressive. She is being gently trained to accept basic care like farrier visits and veterinary treatments.

Moonshine has arthritis in one of her back legs, which affects her movement, leading veterinarians to recommend she be adopted as a non-rideable companion horse. She bonds well with other horses and would thrive as a pasture pet with equine companionship. Interested adopters can contact Easy R Equine Rescue to learn more about giving Moonshine a new home. The ASPCA’s Right Horse initiative aims to increase horse adoptions nationwide and provides a platform to connect potential adopters with horses like Moonshine.
