ACCT Philly Shelter Rescues Unusual Menagerie Including Alligator, Horses, Birds, and Lizard in One Week

ACCT Philly recently experienced an unusually busy week, taking in a diverse group of animals including three birds, two horses, a lizard, and an alligator. The alligator, named Ferdinand, was found alongside a husky after an eviction and was soon relocated to a Florida sanctuary, while the husky remains available for adoption. Other arrivals included Phisy the pheasant, whose owner surrendered him due to illness, and two social quails named Will and Bill, both now housed at the shelter. Additionally, a somewhat feral skink with a leg infection was rescued and found a new home.

The shelter also encountered two horses tied up at a tennis court in East Germantown, an unusual situation as horse rescues are rare for ACCT Philly. The horses were temporarily housed elsewhere until their owner could reclaim them, following a relative’s unauthorized joyride. Despite the unexpected influx and variety of animals, the shelter staff adapted quickly, managing the unusual menagerie with professionalism and care.
