Irish Olympic dressage rider Abi Lyle made a successful return to competition at the NAF Five Star Hartpury Festival of dressage, securing first and second places in the Premier League grand prix with her horse Giraldo. After nearly a year away from competing due to personal challenges and a serious back injury, Abi emphasized the importance of taking time to recover and manage her physical health carefully. She highlighted that stepping back allowed her to regain her motivation and enjoy riding again without pressure, choosing not to target the 2025 European dressage Championships as she focuses on rebuilding gradually.
Abi described her injury as a “blessing in disguise,” reigniting her passion for the sport and strengthening her bond with her horses. She stressed that the horses’ well-being remained a priority throughout her break and that the time off was a valuable lesson in what truly matters. Now feeling revitalized and like her old self, Abi is excited to compete again, balancing her ambitions with self-care and a renewed love for dressage.
