The Aberdeen University equestrian team, the only Scottish team to qualify for the British University and Colleges Sports (BUCS) equestrian finals, is gearing up for the competition with high hopes. Their qualification was unexpected, marking the first time in ten years the team has reached this stage. The team competes in dressage and showjumping, but uniquely, riders use horses provided by the event organizers rather than their own, adding complexity to the competition. Training at Hayfield Riding Centre, where they practice on a variety of horses, has been crucial in preparing them for this challenge.
The team hopes their success will boost interest and membership in their relatively small club. Despite the pressure of competing against some of the UK’s top university riders, the team is focused on enjoying the event and representing Scotland with pride. Their journey to the finals highlights both their dedication and the support from their local riding school, setting the stage for a memorable competition.
