On April 22, a six-day adoption event concluded for a herd of Morgan horses rescued from an alleged animal cruelty case in Madison County, Montana. The Humane Society of Western Montana, in collaboration with the ASPCA and local authorities, organized the event after gaining legal ownership of the horses. Over 500 inquiries were received from potential adopters, and as the event progressed, only a few horses remained available for adoption.
Virginia “Gin” K. and her husband, Bill, learned about the event through social media and expressed interest in adopting horses suitable for their grandchildren. On the final day of the event, they fell in love with three older mares—Dorothy, May, and Sweetie—who had not yet been adopted. After a last-minute cancellation by another potential adopter, Gin and Bill decided to take all three horses home, marking a joyful conclusion to the event.
Gin emphasized the importance of adopting older horses, noting their gentleness and experience. The adoption not only provided a loving home for the horses but also allowed Gin and Bill to share their passion for horses with their grandchildren. The event highlighted the significance of horse adoption, particularly during May, which is designated as Adopt a Horse Month.
