A Foggy Tale Wins Best Picture at Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards Amid Political Tensions

At Taiwan’s Golden Horse awards, the film “A Foggy Tale” won the best picture title, standing out for its portrayal of Taiwan’s martial law era, specifically the “White Terror” period from 1949 to 1987. The film, which received 11 nominations, follows a young girl’s journey to recover her brother’s body after his execution, highlighting the tense sociopolitical climate of that time.

The awards also honored China’s Fan Bingbing as best actress for her role in “Mother Bhumi,” a Malaysian-set film. Despite China’s official ban on participation due to political tensions, Chinese films and actors continue to seek and gain recognition at the Golden Horse awards.
