4-H Plant Sale Offers Elderberries, Pomegranates, Peaches, Figs, and Pecans

The Rowan County 4-H plant sale, organized by Amy-Lynn Albertson of the N.C. Cooperative Extension, offers a variety of new and traditional plants this fall. Featured selections include elderberries, known for their medicinal and ecological benefits; pomegranates, which require full sun and good drainage; peaches and figs, both suitable for small lots and late bloomers to avoid frost damage; and pecan trees, which need space and cross-pollination but yield substantial nut harvests after several years. Prices range from $13 for smaller plants like elderberries and figs to $42 for larger pecan trees.

In addition to these highlights, the sale also includes limited quantities of mulberries, plums, persimmons, apples, and blueberries. Interested buyers are encouraged to place orders by October 30, with pick-up scheduled for November 6. For more details and pricing, customers can visit the Rowan County Extension website or call the provided phone number. This event provides an excellent opportunity for gardeners to diversify their landscapes with both fruiting and nut-bearing plants suited to North Carolina’s climate.
