39 Horses Seized in Vermont Animal Cruelty Case at Friesians of Majesty Farm

Authorities seized 39 horses from the Friesians of Majesty horse farm in Townshend, Vermont, amid an ongoing animal cruelty investigation. Owner Robert Labrie was charged with animal cruelty and violating conditions of release after returning to the farm during the investigation despite being ordered not to. The seized horses were found in poor conditions, suffering from ailments such as emaciation and untreated injuries, with some requiring hospitalization. This marks the fourth seizure from the farm, with Dorset Equine Rescue having taken in a total of 74 horses since 2023.

Dorset Equine Rescue, led by Jen Straub, is managing the care of the horses, covering all medical and maintenance costs without state or federal funding. The rescue is collaborating with other organizations to accommodate the large number of horses, many of which will be transferred once stable. Straub highlighted the ongoing high demand for horse rescues in Vermont and is planning to expand facilities on a recently purchased property to better support future needs.
