A 33-year-old horse was rescued after becoming stuck in mud about 30 yards from Crittenden Road in Suffolk, Virginia. Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews arrived to find a veterinarian already assessing the horse and quickly developed a plan to free it. Using electric chainsaws and ground pads, they cleared a path, and after sedating the horse, they secured and pulled it out with a glide sled.
Following an hour of veterinary care, the horse was able to stand and walk back to the barn safely. The coordinated efforts of the fire crew and veterinarian ensured the successful rescue of the horse from the swampy area.
