At the April 10 awards ceremony in Lexington, the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders (KTOB) and Kentucky Thoroughbred Association (KTA) announced the 2025 Kentucky-bred champions. Crowned, the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Sovereignty, was named Broodmare of the Year. Sovereignty earned top honors as the 2025 Kentucky-bred Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male after winning the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Travers Stakes. Godolphin, Sovereignty’s owner and breeder, was recognized as both Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund (KTDF) Owner and Breeder of the Year for the fifth consecutive year and received the P.A.B. Widener Award for the sixth consecutive year.
Other notable winners included Ted Noffey (2-year-old male), Super Corredora (2-year-old filly), and Nitrogen (3-year-old male), among others across various categories such as turf, sprint, and steeplechase. Merit awards honored individuals like Judy Hicks for breeding contributions and B. Wayne Hughes for humanitarian efforts. KTDF awards recognized Not This Time as Sire of the Year and Troubleshooting as Earner of the Year. Winners were selected by KTA/KTOB members and based on purse earnings at Kentucky tracks, highlighting the state’s continued excellence in Thoroughbred breeding and racing.
